Datuk Idris Haron (born 13 May 1966[1]) is a Malaysian politician and is currently the Member of the Parliament of Malaysia for the Tangga Batu constituency in the State of Melaka. He is a member of the United Malay National Organisation (UMNO) party in the governing Barisan Nasional coalition.
Idris was elected to federal Parliament in the 2004 election for the newly created seat of Tangga Batu.[2] In his first year in Parliament, Idris made international news for complaining that the outfits worn by stewardesses on Malaysia Airlines would result in male passengers sexually harassing the stewardesses.[3] After the 2008 election, Idris was appointed a Deputy Minister for Higher Education in the government of Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.[4]
Idris was born in Pekan Asahan, Melaka on 13 May 1966, and is married with two children. He received a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Texas at El Paso.[1] Before his election to Parliament, Idris was chairman of the Alor Gajah district council.[5]
